Teachers and Youth Leaders: Sign up for LifeSmarts Competition!

VT Jump$tart is seeking teams from Vermont's high schools (grades 9-12) and other youth groups to participate in LifeSmarts. The registration deadline is August 1, 2009, and teams begin competing online September 14. VT Jump$tart will then host a competition between the top online competitors in late winter/early spring 2010 to determine who will represent Vermont at the national competition in Miami Beach, Florida, in April. It's really very easy to compete in the preliminary competition as the questions are online. Contact us at vtjumpstart@comcast.net if you wish to participate or have questions.

Please read more information about LifeSmarts from the LifeSmarts web site at www.lifesmarts.org below:

LifeSmarts--the ultimate consumer challenge--is an educational opportunity that develops the consumer and marketplace knowledge and skills of teenagers in a fun way and rewards them for this knowledge. The program complements the curriculum already in place in high schools and can be used as an activity for classes, groups, clubs, and community organizations. LifeSmarts, run as a game-show style competition, is open to all teens in the U.S. in high school -- and now, thanks to our Junior Varsity program, middle school students may compete as well!

LifeSmarts topics have been chosen to encourage and reward knowledge in the areas that matter most to consumers and workers in today's marketplace: personal finance; health and safety; the environment; technology; and consumer rights and responsibilities.

In LifeSmarts, teams of four to five teens, coached by an adult participant, compete in district and state matches with the state winners going to the national competition to vie for the national LifeSmarts title. LifeSmarts is a program of the National Consumers League, and we are proud to celebrate our 15th year with this 2008-2009 season.
